As my last post may have hinted, I’ve been trying to learn French for the past several months. There’s something thrilling about learning a new language, I find — there’s a sense of discovery as you learn how concepts you take for granted are expressed in other cultures, and it’s immensely satisfying to solve that puzzle.
Of course, unless I end up living in another country for some extended period of time, I don’t think I’ll ever become fluent in a language other than my native English. But it’d sure be nice to be able to carry on a conversation in at least a few others. Consider it a top item on my bucket list. It goes hand-in-hand with my desire to travel more. ∞
